Tottenham : Is this coach the ideal replacement for Antonio Conte ?
Chris Sutton has suggested that Luis Enrique would be the ideal candidate to replace Antonio Conte as Tottenham’s manager. Conte left the club on Sunday after 16 months in charge, and his conservative approach to games was criticised.
Sutton believes that Enrique’s style of football would be a perfect antidote to the Conte regime. Enrique won the treble with Barcelona in 2015 and was sacked by Spain at the end of last year.
Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann are among the managers who have been linked with the vacant Spurs job. However, Sutton believes that some Spurs fans may not want Pochettino to return because of the way he left the club. He added that the appointment will be about the brand of football that Spurs fans demand.
A permanent manager is expected to be appointed in the summer, with Cristian Stellini leading the club until the end of the season. Nagelsmann is currently the early favourite with bookies to assume the vacant Spurs role.
Enrique’s appointment would be a popular choice among Spurs fans who have criticised Conte’s negative brand of football. Sutton believes that Enrique’s style of football would be a perfect fit for Tottenham and would help the club get back to its identity from the 70s/80s.
