Everton’s Championship target grows increasingly convinced the Blues ace will join him on loan deal

Harrison Armstrong’s recent recall to Everton from his Preston loan has sparked speculation about his immediate future. The midfielder was brought back to Goodison Park due to squad depth issues caused by AFCON commitments and injury absences. However, a swift return to the Championship club appears likely in January.

Armstrong demonstrated considerable promise during his time at Preston, making 17 appearances and contributing one goal alongside one assist. His development at the club evidently impressed Everton’s coaching staff, with the 19-year-old showing strong technical ability and creative impact. The youngster completed nine successful dribbles and created eight chances during his spell in the Championship.

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom has expressed confidence regarding Armstrong’s return. The Championship manager stated he expects the deal to be finalized within days, emphasizing that consistent playing time remains essential for the midfielder’s continued development. Heckingbottom noted that Armstrong’s experience at Preston has proven valuable for his education as a footballer.

David Moyes appears to have already signaled approval for another loan departure. The Everton boss previously explained his intention to send Armstrong back to Preston, recognizing the promotional ambitions of the club and the importance of regular first-team football for the teenager’s progression. Moyes prioritizes Armstrong’s development over immediate squad needs.

The decision ultimately depends on available playing opportunities at Everton. With midfielders like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Idrissa Gueye expected to return from injury, consistent starts for Armstrong appear unlikely. At nineteen years old, maintaining momentum through regular competitive minutes takes precedence, making a return to Preston the most sensible option for all parties involved.
