Callum Wilson breaks Celtic transfer cover with a cryptic timeline hint whilst Philip Otele prepares for his surprise move

Callum Wilson has seemingly revealed timing details regarding his potential departure from West Ham, with Celtic pursuing his signature. The England international is engaged in discussions about terminating his contract with the Premier League club as the Scottish side intensifies recruitment efforts for a striker position during the January window.

Celtic initiated contact with the 33-year-old’s team on Thursday to assess his willingness to join Glasgow and understand the timeline for his exit from the London outfit. Wilson is anticipated to become a free agent shortly after concluding negotiations with West Ham, though Everton and Sevilla have also expressed interest in acquiring him once his current deal ends.

However, recent evidence suggests an immediate move may not be forthcoming. Wilson posted training images from West Ham’s Rush Green facility on his Instagram story ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Tottenham, indicating he remains actively involved with the Hammers at present. This suggests any departure timeline may be further away than initially anticipated.

West Ham manager Nuno remained noncommittal when discussing Wilson’s status before the Spurs encounter. He emphasized the club’s focus on squad adjustments, stating they are actively working on bringing in additional options for specific areas while simultaneously finding appropriate solutions for players lacking regular playing time to advance their careers elsewhere.

Celtic have also made inquiries regarding Basel’s Philip Otele, a 26-year-old winger attracting attention from multiple clubs. The player is training separately to prevent injury complications ahead of a potential transfer. Basel’s sporting director Daniel Stucki confirmed his expectation that Otele will depart this month, following a failed transfer to Russia during the summer period.

Stucki explained that squad restructuring during the winter window is anticipated, with the goal of ensuring all players understand their roles and have appropriate opportunities. He acknowledged that while Otele’s departure was expected previously, it ultimately did not materialize due to political considerations, but recent signings now create space for his potential exit. Multiple preliminary inquiries have been received for the winger, with Stucki expecting activity to accelerate imminently.
