Chelsea player’s loan deal ends prematurely as unexpected rival move materialises after merely four months
Leeds United has secured Facundo Buonanotte after Chelsea terminated his loan arrangement. The Argentine midfielder struggled to gain playing time at Stamford Bridge, earning just a single Premier League appearance since arriving from Brighton in the previous summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has now joined Leeds on a temporary basis for the remainder of the season and could feature in their upcoming match against Fulham. Buonanotte previously came close to joining Leeds last summer before Chelsea intervened. He spent the preceding season on loan at Leicester, where he contributed six goals and three assists across 35 appearances in a campaign that ended with the club’s relegation.
Finding consistent first-team opportunities proved considerably more difficult at Chelsea, though recent managerial changes may have affected his situation. The midfielder primarily operates as a number ten but demonstrates flexibility on the wing. He brings attacking creativity to complement Leeds’ forward options, and his experience in relegation battles should prove valuable as the club fights for top-flight survival.
During his Chelsea tenure, Buonanotte made eight total appearances and scored once in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln City. He managed only 46 minutes of Premier League action under new Blues manager Liam Rosenior. His sole assist for Chelsea came in the same cup competition during a quarter-final victory at Cardiff.
Leeds currently occupies a strong position, having lost just one match across their last nine games in all competitions. This positive run has established an eight-point cushion above the relegation zone, providing the squad with momentum heading into the critical final stages of the season. Buonanotte’s arrival aims to bolster their creative resources as they pursue safety.
