Everton eye shock swoop for Jack Grealish amid Man City exit rumors
Everton’s ambitions of securing Jack Grealish on a permanent basis seem to be gathering pace, as the England international continues his impressive loan stint at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Having swiftly established himself as a crucial member of the Toffees’ lineup, Grealish’s absence was keenly felt when Everton faced Manchester City, with his parent club claiming a straightforward 2-0 win.
The Merseyside club and its supporters have become enamored with the winger, but the likelihood of a long-term deal has always appeared remote for David Moyes and his management team. Nevertheless, recent developments suggest that circumstances could soon shift in Everton’s favor regarding a possible transfer.
Everton’s pursuit of Grealish suffered a setback after Pep Guardiola hinted that he may want to recall the 30-year-old if his stellar displays persist. Grealish, who previously starred for Aston Villa, has already tallied five goal contributions in just seven appearances this season, signaling a return to his best form.
While Everton possess an option to buy Grealish for £50 million at the end of the campaign, it is widely believed that the club would struggle to meet such a hefty price tag. However, former club scout Bryan King told Goodison News that Manchester City might be persuaded to accept a reduced fee due to the player’s substantial wages. King stated, “They (Everton) should be looking at Grealish. But it’s whether the £50m would be the final figure. It’s alright City saying they want £50m for him, but I think at the end of the day, when the package is done, everything might add up to £50m, but the fee itself might only be £35m or £40m.”
King further explained the potential financial motivations for City, adding, “He’s still a big player to take off City’s wage bill. He still has a couple of years left on his deal, so that in itself would be a lot of money to save. If you sign a £100m player, then he’s got to be on £200,000 a week at a minimum.”
Despite the financial challenges Everton faces in pursuing Grealish, his impact on the pitch has been undeniable. The club invested heavily in younger talents such as Thierno Barry and Tyler Dibling over the summer, but Grealish represents a different caliber—one who can deliver immediate returns, especially in the Premier League.
Everton’s long-term strategy has focused on nurturing future prospects, yet the team also requires proven performers capable of making a difference now. While a permanent move for Grealish could potentially disrupt other transfer objectives, the consensus remains that his influence could justify the financial outlay required.
As the season unfolds, the possibility of Everton negotiating a deal for Grealish—potentially at a lower fee—remains on the table, with both clubs weighing the sporting and financial implications of such a significant transfer.
