Brendan Rodgers on the verge of Celtic exit as three Premier League clubs circle
Brendan Rodgers appears set to make an exit from Celtic when the current season wraps up, with sources indicating that his departure is becoming more probable. Rodgers, who took the reins at Celtic Park in 2023 after signing a three-year contract, seems unlikely to extend his tenure beyond next summer. This development has fueled speculation about his next move, with a return to the Premier League being widely discussed.
Rumors have intensified that Rodgers could be seeking a new challenge before the 2026-27 season commences. His potential availability is expected to spark interest from a number of Premier League clubs, all eager to appoint a manager with his pedigree and experience. The current landscape in the English top flight suggests several managerial positions could soon be vacant, making Rodgers a prime candidate.
Oliver Glasner, who manages Crystal Palace, and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are both approaching the end of their contracts, while Marco Silva at Fulham has also attracted interest from other clubs. The situation is further complicated by uncertainty at Nottingham Forest, where Ange Postecoglou’s future is in doubt due to a lack of victories. Rodgers is seen as a possible target for Forest, especially considering owner Evangelos Marinakis’s long-standing admiration for him.
Football transfer insider Alex Crook weighed in, stating: “We could be talking, come the summer, of a bit of a managerial merry-go-round because Oliver Glasner at Palace is coming to the end of his contract, Marco Silva at Fulham [is too]. And Andoni Iraola, very sought after by some top clubs, is in the same situation at Bournemouth. You would think all of those trio would be interested in a manager with the CV of Brendan Rodgers. And don’t rule out Nottingham Forest either – because Evangelos Marinakis has been a long-term admirer of Brendan Rodgers and obviously Ange Postecoglou is still on a very sticky wicket there.”
Despite Celtic’s strong form in the Scottish Premiership—where they remain unbeaten in league play—the club is currently positioned second, trailing Hearts by two points. The combination of their league standing and Rodgers’ contract situation has only amplified speculation about his next move.
As the season progresses, attention will remain fixed on Rodgers’ future and the potential domino effect his departure could trigger within Premier League managerial circles. With several clubs possibly seeking new leadership, Rodgers’ proven track record makes him a highly attractive prospect for teams aiming to rebuild or push higher up the table.
