Wales makes dramatic move to steal England’s record-breaking prodigy in international football battle
A battle is brewing between England and Wales over the international future of Mikey Moore, the teenage winger who is currently on loan at Rangers from Tottenham. Despite being born in London, Moore qualifies for Wales through a grandparent, prompting interest from Welsh coach Craig Bellamy, who has reportedly held discussions with the young star to persuade him to switch his national allegiance.
Moore has already represented England at the Under-19 level, but Wales remains hopeful they can follow in the footsteps of recent successes, having previously convinced David Brooks and Jordan James to play for the Dragons after both had worn England shirts as youth internationals. This tug-of-war highlights Moore’s growing reputation as one of British football’s most promising talents.
The 18-year-old’s rapid ascent began at Tottenham, where he broke into the senior squad after eight years rising through the club’s youth system. Making his debut in May 2024, Moore became the youngest player ever to appear for Spurs in the Premier League, taking to the pitch at just 16 years and 277 days old.
His achievements extend beyond domestic milestones. Moore etched his name into the club’s history books by surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record, becoming the youngest English player to score in a major European competition. That memorable moment came during Tottenham’s Europa League-winning run, with Moore finding the net against Elfsborg at just 17 years and 172 days.
Since joining Rangers on loan in August, Moore has featured in six matches across all competitions. Though his statistics are still modest—one goal and two assists in 21 appearances—his performances have made him the center of attention for both national teams eager to secure his commitment.
Moore first joined Tottenham’s academy at the age of nine, steadily progressing through the ranks before making his breakthrough at senior level. As speculation mounts regarding his international allegiance, both England and Wales will be watching closely, hoping to add a dynamic talent to their respective squads.
