Tottenham on verge of shock £60m swoop for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze!
Tottenham Hotspur are nearing a significant transfer breakthrough with Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze, sources reveal. Negotiations between the two Premier League clubs have advanced, with a deal in the region of £60 million believed to be close to completion. Daniel Levy, the Spurs chairman, has been personally overseeing these discussions in a bid to secure the talented midfielder.
Despite their progress, a final agreement hinges on Crystal Palace’s ability to secure a replacement before sanctioning Eze’s departure. The club intends for Eze to remain fully involved in training and matches until this condition is met. Eze’s £68 million release clause at Selhurst Park lapsed on Friday, rendering a straightforward exit impossible without Palace’s consent.
Amid intense speculation about his future, Eze still played for Palace in their recent goalless draw with Chelsea. After the match, manager Oliver Glasner confirmed his expectation that Eze would be available for the Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad. Glasner stated, “Eb should have scored a goal today, he had one and it was disallowed. He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad.”
Yet, there were signs of an imminent farewell, as Eze appeared to bid goodbye to supporters at Stamford Bridge, applauding the travelling fans following the final whistle. The 27-year-old has reportedly communicated his desire to leave, ending a five-year spell with the Eagles.
Should the move be completed, Eze would become Tottenham’s seventh signing of the summer. Thomas Frank, overseeing his first transfer window at the club, has already spent in excess of £125 million. The Dane has sanctioned permanent deals for Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, while Joao Palhinha has joined on loan from Bayern Munich and Mohammed Kudus arrived for £55 million.
Tottenham began their Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Burnley, setting a positive tone for the campaign. The spotlight now turns to who might fill the void at Palace if Eze departs.
Palace must act quickly, with less than two weeks left in the transfer window to find a suitable replacement. Their top target appears to be Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss, though his £22 million release clause has expired and the Foxes are now demanding around £30 million. Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, who previously played for Norwich, is also under consideration as another possible reinforcement.
