Nico Raskin’s £15m price tag stuns as Russell Martin warns Rangers fans: ‘We are not finished yet’
Rangers have been informed by Barry Ferguson that any clubs hoping to sign Nico Raskin will need to pay at least £15 million. The Belgian midfielder, who was a standout performer during an otherwise disappointing season, has increased his profile by earning international appearances alongside Kevin De Bruyne. Raskin’s value has soared after his consistent displays, with Ferguson, a former Rangers interim manager, convinced Raskin is ready for the English Premier League.
Despite being left out of the starting lineup in the Champions League clash against Viktoria Plzen, Raskin featured as a substitute. This decision followed Russell Martin’s promise to make changes after a frustrating draw against Motherwell on the opening day. The midfielder’s contract is entering its final two years, making now a critical time for Rangers if they wish to maximize a potential transfer fee.
Ferguson, who spent several months working closely with Raskin, did not hold back in his praise. He told Go Radio: “Nico can play in the Premier League all day long. I worked with him for three months. He has all the attributes and is still at a brilliant age. He still has some things he needs to tidy up on, but he understands that. He’s got an opinion which I liked. He’s really interested and keen to learn. All day long he can play in the Premier League. Now, Rangers have got to be looking for big money for Nico. I am looking at £15million at least for Nico – and the rest!”
Meanwhile, manager Russell Martin has been busy reshaping the squad during the summer window. New signings such as Oliver Antman have already made an impact, with Antman impressing on his debut at Ibrox. Another addition, Djeidi Gassama, has settled quickly, scoring four times in the European qualifiers and providing further optimism for supporters.
Martin has also provided updates on the progress of Mikey Moore and Hamza Igamane. He explained, “[Mikey] Moore is just not there, there are a lot of protocols we need to go through for under-18s.” Regarding Igamane, Martin added, “Hamza missed two weeks with visa issues, and picked up a small injury in first game, so we are building him back up to avoid any injuries. He is a great lad and just needs to get fully fit.”
With more potential signings on the horizon, Martin emphasized that Rangers’ transfer activity is far from complete. “We are not finished yet and we will look to add to the squad in the next few weeks,” he stated, signaling further changes as the club aims to improve on last season’s performance.
