Shock as Arsenal and Liverpool face transfer blow with Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi set to remain at Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace appears set to keep hold of both Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze this season, despite persistent interest from several Premier League giants. Liverpool, Newcastle, and Spurs have all expressed a desire to sign England international Guehi, while Arsenal have continued to monitor Eze’s situation closely.
The transfer window remains open for another month, yet there have been no concrete bids for either player so far. Club officials at Selhurst Park are reportedly in no hurry to part ways with their two prized assets, a stance that will come as a relief to supporters still grappling with recent European setbacks and the looming threat of demotion to the Conference League.
Liverpool have been engaged in discussions with Guehi’s representatives, but the defender, who has just one year left on his contract, is not actively seeking a move. The Premier League champions have valued him at approximately £40 million, which falls £10 million short of Palace’s demands.
Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Guehi after their £70 million bid was rejected in January, while Newcastle had three offers turned down last year. The Magpies have rekindled their interest this summer, but like Liverpool, their latest proposal has not met Palace’s valuation. This stalemate could result in Guehi seeing out the final year of his contract and potentially leaving for free next summer, opening the door for a possible move to clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Within the club, confidence is growing that Guehi will remain an Eagle for at least another season. Meanwhile, Eze has emerged as a target for Arsenal, and is reportedly eager to join the North London side. However, the Gunners are unwilling to activate his £68 million release clause, and with Palace not under financial pressure to sell, the club is unlikely to lower their valuation. Arsenal may now turn their attention to alternative transfer targets.
The uncertainty over the players’ futures comes as Palace fans are still coming to terms with UEFA’s controversial decision to relegate the club to this season’s Conference League, despite their Europa League qualification through the FA Cup victory. The club’s appeal against the ruling is due to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday.
UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body had demoted Palace to the third-tier European competition as part of a case involving multi-club ownership. The outcome of the appeal could have significant ramifications for the club’s European ambitions this season.
