Christian Eriksen in jaw-dropping transfer talks to join Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham after Manchester United departure
Following his departure from Manchester United, Christian Eriksen has reportedly been approached by Wrexham in a surprise bid to bring the Danish midfielder to Wales. The club’s Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are eager to make a splash in the Championship after last season’s promotion from League One.
According to the Mail, Wrexham engaged in discussions with Eriksen after his contract with Manchester United expired earlier this month. The 33-year-old, once considered among the world’s elite midfielders, would have represented a major coup for both Wrexham and the Championship as a whole.
However, Eriksen appears to be prioritizing a move to a top-flight league elsewhere in Europe. His career has seen him feature for notable clubs including Tottenham, Brentford, Ajax, and Inter Milan, and he reportedly believes he is still capable of competing at the highest level.
Although Eriksen was reportedly impressed by the ambition shown by Wrexham’s project, he has decided not to pursue a move to the Welsh club at this time. Instead, he is evaluating offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Brazil, and Turkey.
A source familiar with the situation stated, “Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like Michael Williamson there. But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.”
During his three-season stint at Manchester United, Eriksen made 107 appearances and secured both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He also reached the finals of another FA Cup and the Europa League, adding to his impressive trophy haul.
Eriksen’s football journey began at Ajax, but it was at Tottenham where he truly emerged as a fan favorite, amassing 305 appearances over seven seasons and playing a key role in the club’s runs to the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals.
Following his time at Inter Milan, Eriksen’s career was interrupted by a cardiac arrest suffered during Euro 2020 while playing for Denmark. Due to Serie A regulations concerning players with ICDs, he left Italy and joined Brentford in early 2022 before signing with Manchester United later that year.
