Newcastle: Confirmed serious injury to this key player and he will miss the Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United has confirmed that talented left-back Lewis Hall will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a significant foot injury. The club made this announcement following a thorough assessment by a specialist, which revealed that surgery is necessary for his recovery.

Initially, Hall was set to miss the upcoming Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on March 16, having already been absent during Newcastle’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton. The severity of his injury has now been fully assessed, leading to the decision for surgical intervention.

In an official statement, Newcastle expressed their disappointment: “Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot. Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.” The club extended their best wishes for his surgery and recovery.

This injury is particularly devastating for Newcastle as they prepare for a crucial match at Wembley. Hall’s absence is compounded by the suspension of fellow player Anthony Gordon, who received a straight red card for an incident during the match against Brighton. Newcastle has chosen not to appeal this decision, leaving them without two key players for the final.

With both Hall and Gordon unavailable, manager Eddie Howe will need to adjust his strategy significantly. Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes are expected to fill in for the injured Hall and suspended Gordon as they face the formidable challenge of containing Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Hall’s season had been a breakout one, with the 20-year-old establishing himself as a vital component of Newcastle’s squad. He has made 34 appearances in all competitions, contributing five assists, and even earned his first two senior caps for England last November.

Unfortunately for Hall, his injury comes at a time when he was poised for further recognition, as he was likely to be included in Thomas Tuchel’s upcoming squad for the World Cup qualifiers. With his absence, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly may now take the opportunity to step into the left-back role for the matches against Albania and Latvia.
