CF Montréal: A new talent joins the team and excitement builds among fans!

CF Montréal has made a strategic move by bringing Canadian defender Raheem Edwards back to the fold from LA Galaxy, in exchange for a substantial sum of general allocation money. The 28-year-old Toronto native is no stranger to Montreal, having previously played there during the split season of 2018.

Olivier Renard, Montreal’s VP and chief sporting officer, expressed his pleasure at re-signing Edwards, citing his familiarity with both the club and city. This acquisition adds another Canadian talent to their roster as they aim to bolster their defensive line-up.

Edwards’ versatility on the field allows him to adeptly handle duties as a left-back within various defensive formations. His journey through MLS began with Toronto FC in 2016, where he contributed significantly to TFC’s treble-winning season the following year.

The well-traveled player has had stints with several clubs across North America before landing at LA Galaxy as a free agent in January 2022. Galaxy GM Will Kuntz acknowledged Edwards’ commitment but noted that this transfer benefits all parties involved – allowing Edwards proximity to family while giving Galaxy flexibility for future team building.

During his two seasons with LA Galaxy, Edwards proved productive, contributing three goals and eleven assists over seventy games. With eight years in MLS under his belt spanning six different teams, he boasts an impressive record of appearances and contributions on the pitch.

Beyond club football, Edwards has also represented Canada internationally on five occasions. His return to CF Montréal marks not only a homecoming but also signals the club’s intent to strengthen its squad ahead of upcoming campaigns.
