Celtic FC : What’s happening for these two transfers and why is it all paused ?
Royal Antwerp’s manager, Jonas De Roeck, is facing challenges in shaping his team due to the uncertainty surrounding Michel-Ange Balikwisha’s future. The talented winger has caught the eye of Scottish giants Celtic after an impressive season in Belgium where he scored seven goals and provided six assists. His performances have not gone unnoticed on the European stage either, with a goal contribution in the Champions League.
Celtic has been active in bolstering their squad this summer, bringing in players like Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel. Now, Balikwisha seems to be next on their list. Talks between Celtic and Royal Antwerp are expected soon regarding a potential transfer for the 23-year-old forward. De Roeck expressed his concerns to Het Nieuwsblad about losing a key player but acknowledged it as part of today’s football reality.
Meanwhile, Carl Starfelt’s rumored return to Parkhead appears less likely now. Despite reports from Spain suggesting he was no longer needed at Celta Vigo, coach Claudio Giraldez has indicated that selling Starfelt is not part of their plan.
As for departures from Celtic, midfielder Matt O’Riley has attracted attention from several top clubs across Europe including Atalanta who seem to be leading the race for his signature. However, despite speculation of an imminent move, O’Riley joined Celtic’s pre-season tour in the US.
Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Atalanta is not rushing into any deal unless they decide to sell Teun Koopmeiners first. They appear content with their current midfield options and will take time considering whether or not to meet Celtic’s €25m valuation for O’Riley. Juventus remains interested observers as they weigh up alternatives should they fail to secure Koopmeiners’ services.
