Fulham’s winger is sought after by Saudi Arabian team Al Shabab
Despite recently signing a new one-year contract with Fulham, star winger Willian is now reportedly on the radar of Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab. The Middle Eastern team appears ready to offer him an impressive £200,000 per week after tax.
“Willian pledged his future to Fulham after his initial deal expired this summer,” reports Simon Jones for MailOnline. However, despite Willian’s commitment to the English side and no official bid yet received by Marco Silva’s team, it seems that interest in the player remains high abroad.
The 34-year-old Brazilian footballer has had a successful career so far, having previously played for Chelsea and Arsenal before joining Fulham. Last season alone he scored five goals and provided six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Cottagers.
A Potential Move Despite Recent Contract Renewal?
Interestingly enough, prior to renewing his contract with Fulham just two weeks ago, Willian was said to have held discussions about a potential move with Nottingham Forest even visiting their training ground. Ultimately though he chose to remain loyal to Fulham stating: ‘I’m completely happy,’ after penning fresh terms.
In spite of this recent renewal of vows with Fulham, if Al Shabab decides to formalize its interest in acquiring Willian’s services, they would likely need to pay a fee. It should be noted that unlike four other teams – Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and Al Hilal – which were taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in June; Al Shabab still operates independently.
