Everton: Roma is considering a deal for this Toffee as a replacement for Abraham

In a surprising turn of events, Roma is reportedly eyeing Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a potential replacement for Tammy Abraham. The former Chelsea striker suffered a severe ACL injury on the last day of the previous season.

Mourinho’s Strategy with Roma

Roma’s coach, José Mourinho, has been strategically building his team by recruiting numerous players from the Premier League. After signing Rui Patricio, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Matic, Tammy Abraham, Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen, he now seems keen to bring Calvert-Lewin to Rome.

The Everton star appeals to Roma because he would allow Abraham to gradually return to full fitness following his knee injury while providing Paulo Dybala with a strong partner similar to Mario Mandzukic at Juventus. According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma is seriously considering making an official offer for the 26-year-old centre-forward who has had difficulties in the last two seasons.

Calvert-Lewin scored 21 goals under Ancelotti at Everton; this aspect is considered crucial for evaluation by the Italian club which holds high admiration for players coached by the former Giallorossi manager.

Potential Challenges and Opportunities

Despite his impressive height of 189 centimeters being beneficial for Roma – especially given their current struggles in attack – there are concerns about Calvert-Lewin’s physical condition. He has experienced many muscular and traumatic injuries that have hampered him. However, it is believed that Serie A could provide him with an opportunity for a successful new phase in his career.

Corriere dello Sport suggests that any deal must be extremely advantageous for Roma – ideally formulated initially on loan terms with an option to make permanent later on. Given Calvert-Lewin’s challenging past 24 months professionally, Everton may be inclined to agree with such an arrangement.

There are indications that Calvert-Lewin would welcome moving to Italy and playing under Mourinho’s guidance. The presence of several other ex-Premier League stars in Rome could ease his transition into life in Italy.

A Second Choice?

Given their challenges securing Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham United FC, Calvert-Lewin appears as an excellent second choice for Roma. Notably, he could cost significantly less than both Alvaro Morata and Scamacca while offering the chance of experiencing a sporting renaissance unlike Morata who will be 32 years old come 2024.

This set of circumstances gives Roma more enthusiasm towards trying and relaunching the English striker without any obligation to buy immediately.
