Crystal Palace interested in Serie A defender amid concerns over Marc Guehi’s future
Crystal Palace is reportedly interested in Torino defender Perr Schuurs, who has also been monitored by Newcastle and Napoli. The club is looking for a new defender amid concerns that Marc Guehi could leave the team. Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs that have been monitoring England international Guehi.
Schuurs was previously at Ajax before joining Torino and impressed during his first season with the Italian club. A former Dutch Under-21 international, he was on the bench for the senior side in 2020. Palace’s interest comes as they seek to strengthen their defense ahead of next season.
Palace keeper Vicente Guaita is also wanted by former club Getafe. Guaita made 27 league appearances for Palace last season but lost his place in the starting lineup to Sam Johnstone. He was previously at Getafe between 2014 and 2018.
The potential departure of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace has led them to step up their interest in Schuurs. With several top Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Guehi, Palace will need to act quickly if they want to secure another quality defender like Schuurs.
Schuurs started out at Fortuna Sittard prior to signing for Ajax in 2018. His impressive performances earned him a move to Torino where he continued to impress during his debut season with the club. If Palace can secure his signature, it would be a major boost to their defensive options going forward.
Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Schuurs highlights their ambition ahead of next season as they look to build a squad capable of challenging higher up the table. While there may be competition from other clubs, Palace will hope that they can convince Schuurs to join them and help improve their fortunes on the pitch.
