Rangers FC: He should be the next offensive recruit and is already eagerly awaited by fans
Rangers FC are reportedly close to signing Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers as a replacement for Alfredo Morelos. The Nigerian international, who scored six goals in 26 league games last season, is said to have agreed on a deal worth around £4.2m with the Scottish club.
Dessers has been linked with Rangers alongside Atalanta star Sam Lammers over the past few weeks. Michael Beale, manager of Rangers, wants to bring a fourth reinforcement into the fold after confirming the signings of Jack Butland, Dijon Sterling and Kieran Dowell.
Record Sport previously revealed that Cremonese were holding out for the £6.5m they paid for him last summer but they backtracked earlier this week to compromise on a deal worth around £4.5m.
Morelos had been Rangers’ frontman since joining in 2017 and quickly became a fan favourite due to his strike-rate and controversial attitude which saw him become the Light Blues’ leading goalscorer in European competition. However, it soon became apparent that his fitness levels had started to waiver before he left the club this summer when his contract expired.
The Colombian’s departure has left Beale looking for a new No.9 ahead of next season. Dessers could be an ideal addition given his experience and explosiveness despite being part of a struggling side last term.
