Newcastle United eyeing a move of this key player to disrupt Chelsea’s plans

Newcastle United are reportedly looking to disrupt Chelsea’s plans of signing Joao Felix permanently. The Portugal forward, who moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid in January, has scored twice in 15 appearances under three different managers.

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is keen on making the move permanent or agreeing on a second loan deal with Atletico’s £89million price tag proving too steep for them. However, Cadena Ser via AS claims that Newcastle could be his next destination instead.

Newcastle have been performing well under Eddie Howe and are hoping to secure fourth place ahead of Tottenham Hotspur after conceding the least amount of goals this season. They remain interested in acquiring Felix as they aim to feature in Europe’s elite competition next season, something which seems unlikely for Chelsea at present.

Manchester United are also monitoring Felix’s progress along with other English sides. Atletico Madrid extended the playmaker’s contract until 2027 before he joined Chelsea but Diego Simeone does not want him back and club chiefs hope to offload him permanently this summer.

Felix cost Atletico a club-record £113million when he joined from Benfica in 2019 and helped them win LaLiga last year. However, there are concerns that his below-par performances at Chelsea will scupper his chances of securing a permanent move to Stamford Bridge. Newcastle may find an offer between £62m and £70m enough to lure him away from London.
