Everton: He does not want to sign until he knows the situation of the club at the end of the season
Alex Iwobi, the Nigerian international midfielder at Everton, is delaying signing a new contract until the club’s status in the Premier League is determined.
Despite recent reports suggesting that he had agreed to a new deal, Nigeria Soccernet has revealed that Iwobi will wait until the end of the season before committing himself.
The report also suggests that other Premier League clubs are interested in him. Everton have struggled this season and relegation could see them lose key players including Iwobi.
Iwobi has been one of Everton’s best performers over the last 12 months and his current contract runs until 2024. He has provided seven assists in all competitions this season and has established himself as a pivotal player for a team lacking quality in attack.
Although there are concerns about Everton’s financial constraints following their poor form, it makes more sense for them to offer Iwobi a new deal rather than sell him given his importance to the team.
