Everton and Aston villa struggle for a midfield that doesn’t really fit their needs
Premier League clubs Everton and Aston Villa have reportedly expressed interest in signing Reims midfielder Dion Lopy during the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old Senegal international has been a regular for his side this season, featuring in 23 games.
However, it is unclear whether Everton needs to strengthen its midfield as they signed several players last year. With Alex Iwobi also playing most of the campaign centrally and thriving in that role, they’ve got an added option and do not need to make more signings there.
Everton’s problems lie up front with no quality striker who can find the back of the net regularly. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness issues are a concern, and even when fit, he’s done very little to justify why he’s the best option for Everton.
If Lopy is available at a cut-price fee, then it makes sense to consider his services but he’s likelier to move to Villa Park instead. Currently, Everton is in a transfer battle with Leeds United over Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.
It remains uncertain if either club will pursue their interest in Lopy or if other teams will enter into negotiations for him before the end of the summer transfer window.
